Background

Ponsonby Community Preschool (formerly Ponsy Kids) opened in 1998, and is operated by the Ponsonby Community Centre. It was developed with the assistance of Auckland Council, out of a growing need for part-time pre-school places in the Ponsonby area.

Ponsonby Community Preschool is a not for profit preschool that is licensed for 41 children aged 2yrs-5yrs.  We have high teacher/child ratios, with 4 qualified teachers and 1 teacher aide providing a nurturing and educational learning environment for our children.

We are proud to have long term and dedicated teachers. Building strong relationships with our families and the community is very important to us. Being community based and non profit means the aspirations and needs of the families in our community come first. Our teaching philosophy is based on extending children’s learning through their individual and group interests.

Ponsonby Preschool offers 20 Hours ECE for 3-5 year old children. Contact our admin Zobeyah Aara on (09) 376 0896 for a visit.

Programme

We provide an environment in which facilities, equipment and resources enable staff to encourage children to take advantage of opportunities to enjoy, learn and extend themselves and their potential.

We know that experiences in pre-school have a greater potential to enhance the personal success and happiness of individuals than at any other time of their life, and that in the absence of the primary caregiver, the best care and educational interests of the child will be catered for at Ponsonby Preschool. There are planned activities and opportunities for play, learning and interaction, with competent, caring staff and within a group of children.
